No, instead they make long leaps while running. This is made possible because of their long, slender legs. The leopards rear legs are long and exceptionally muscular, which provides them with a major thrust to make really big, powerful leaps again and again.
Their muscular hind legs allow them to make a leap of 20 feet in a single bound. Also, leopards have arched backs, which helps them reach their impressive speeds. Leopards have an exceptional talent to move without making a sound. There have been occasions of men climbing trees to escape an attacking tiger, only to be killed when the tiger followed them up.
This does not mean tigers are willing or efficient climbers. Cheetahs are not as equipped as leopards to climb trees, but they still can manage small heights. They can even carry a carcass twice its own body weight up a tree. Still not that much of a difference though. According to this page , the average top speed of the Leopard is faster than the average top speed of the Lion.
The average top speed of the Leopard is apparently I don't find that surprising because I always imagined the Leopard to be faster.
However in practice I did read a book that stated that Leopards were slightly faster than Jaguars. I wouldn't have guessed at the time that Lions were slightly faster as well, while not necessarily guessing that they would be slower.
According to this page , the average top speed of the Tiger is faster than the average top speed of the Leopard. I have to admit, I was fairly surprised, since I would have expected Tigers to be closer in speed to Lions than to Leopards, when in-fact it's Leopards that are closer.
Being heavier than Leopards, I would have expected Tigers to be slower, but I did guess correctly that Tigers were faster than Lions. I guess it's a good thing I've coincidentally kept this one till fast, because it's the one that everyone should know. Your email address will not be published. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam.
